How to Ensure Your Entire House Is Termite Free
What Is Termite Control Tenting?
Termite control tenting or fumigation is a technique where a building is totally covered using a sealed nylon tent, after which it is filled up using a poisonous gas to destroy any drywood termites. These burrow into wood, leaving tunnels in their wake as they slowly eat their way through a building. Left unchecked, the damage done by these will weaken a building. Tenting is an excellent way to deal with any drywood termite infestation completely.
This technique is expensive and usually takes around two days. During this time, the house will be completely sealed off, so arrangements have to be made for homeowners to stay elsewhere. The fumigant, which is normally sulfur’s fluoride, is odourless, colorless, and will leave no residue behind; however, if it is left long enough, it will penetrate deep within the pores of wood, thus killing off any termites.
Preparation for tenting will mean removing all pets, fish tanks, and any live plants from the house before. Food and medicine have to be sealed in special bags; sometimes, these will be provided by the fumigator, or they can be removed also. There may be special instructions with regard to pillows and mattresses which are wrapped in waterproofed covers. These may have to be removed from their covers, or taken out of the house.
Once a house is sealed and tented, lethal gas will then be pumped into the interior. Fans, which should be provided by the service, will be left to run inside, thus circulating the gas, which will allow it to seep through the building, even destroying colonies hidden deep within walls. After a certain period of time, the service will remove the tent, air the house out, and then test the quality of the air using special instruments. Only when all is safe, homeowners are allowed to return back in.
